The Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) Onitsha 2023 Prize Giving Day was held at the school premises on Saturday, 22nd July 2023.
The annual event is held to recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding students in various academic subjects each school year.
Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) Onitsha was established in 1925 and has produced individuals of great reputation in the society including Prof. Obidimma Isaiah Okoli Onyemelukwe.
Prof. OIO Onyemelukwe was a first-class graduate of Economics and an outstanding academic who majored in Economics and Statistics and spent several years lecturing at various Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Throughout his lifetime, Prof. OIO Onyemelukwe was a devoted Dengramite. He was a member of the DMGS Old Boys Association (DOBA), Enugu Branch, where he served in different positions, including as the President of the Association.
In 2022, the Obidimma Isaiah Onyemelukwe Foundation instituted awards to reward the best students in Mathematics and Economics at the Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS). These awards are based on the causes and interests dear to Prof. OIO Onyemelukwe. The awards recognise the outstanding performances of students who excel in these subjects.

The winners for the 2023 prizes were Agah Chigozirim and Manaka Praise, who won the awards for Best Student in Economics and Best Student in Mathematics, respectively. For their achievements, they received cash prizes, certificates of recognition, and plaques from the Foundation.
